Tobacco Free Campus

In March 2014, the Board of Regents voted to create a policy that prohibits the use of all forms of tobacco products on property owned, leased, rented or in the possession of the University System of Georgia (USG). When written, the overall policy followed the lead of more than half of all USG institutions that already were tobacco and/or smoke free.

This policy was created by the Board of Regents and currently applies to all 28 schools in the USG. This policy was not created for any specific university or college.

The policy applies to all employees, students, contractors, subcontractors and visitors and is applicable 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Also, all events hosted by a USG-entity or on behalf of the USG shall be tobacco and smoke free, according to the policy.

The policy officially went into effect on October 1, 2014, for all colleges and universities in the USG.

Georgia Tech continues to work with the USG, as well as many campus departments, to understand how we can best inform and support those impacted by this policy. This includes cessation programs. The USG has information related to tobacco cessation programs listed on the USG Tobacco & Smoke Free website.
